  • Discussing operational issues of the community.

14:10 Activities of the Multimedia lab of UGent (F. De Keukelaere - UGent)
In this presentation an overview of the technologies that are being used and studied in Multimedia Lab - Ghent University will be given. Among others, the following topics will be discussed: our activities within standardization bodies (e.g. MPEG-21 technologies), our research in error resilience in video coding, metadata descriptions, etc.
14:50 Conclusions of the special EITO study on online content (S. Maris - FMV / Medianet Vlaanderen)
At CeBIT 2005, the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO) presented a special study on the online content market and distribution in Western Europe. An overview of the main conclusions of this study will be presented:
- what is the actual situation and value chain for PC, TV and mobile;
- what are the drivers and barriers both from business and from technology perspectives;
- predictions for the future.

This will be a short presentation on the implementation of multimedia content in an educational network. In the fast evolving world of multimedia technology and the fierce competition between technology providers it is hard to make the right choice. Can we provide future-proof solutions?
16:40 E-health technologies and standards (G. Claeys - Agfa)
IT for healthcare (E-Health) is the fastest growing IT sector. E-Health is mainly used to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare by offering the clinical users a faster and universal access to the medical information that's required for a correct diagnosis or treatment of the patient. One of the spearheads of E-Health is the electronic health record, which contains the most important clinical data of the patient and is accessible via the internet. The purpose of this presentation is to give an overview of the most important technologies and (multi-media) standards in E-Health and more specific for the electronic health record.
