The e-lab is the research lab of the Hogeschool Antwerpen, department Industrial Sciences and Technology (Electronics-ICT). The e-lab is actively involved in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 research, closely related with the VUB-IBBT group.  We are mainly focussing on applied research in which we try to create demonstrators for new algorithms. Our main focus at this time is:

Real-time Region of interest (ROI) coding with H.264 / MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG2000 using eye/head tracking devices (VUB-IBBT)
Distributed source coding (DSC) for video  implementation (VUB-IBBT)
Digital TV (TV) and Mhp applications (Integan)
Channel-blocking capabilities in digital video broadcasts (DVB) with RFID-tags and other RFID applications

Several other research projects are also being conducted (marginally) related to these topics. Previous research in the elab was related to wireless network (IWT-funded WLAN IDEAS project) and bipolar transistors (2 IWT-funded project in cooperation with DRIX).

We focus on the implementation on reconfigurable hardware to maximally exploit the scalability in framerate, resolution and quality depending on the availability of hardware resources.

IBCN, the INTEC Broadband Communication Networks research group, is part of the Department of Information Technology (INTEC) of the Ghent University, and is one of the initial groups participating in the Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology (IBBT). Established in 1992, IBCN counts approximately 90 employees. IBCN is active in fundamental, applied and contract research in the fields of broadband communication networks and distributed software for the support of advanced applications.
